Our Mission

See the world. Immerse yourself. Make a difference.

At The Reconnect Africa Project, we believe that Africa’s greatest asset is its people—both at home and abroad. Our mission is to empower African professionals in the diaspora to return, reinvest, and rebuild their homelands, driving innovation and sustainable development across key industries.

Why We Exist

For decades, Africa has witnessed a brain drain, where skilled professionals have left to pursue opportunities elsewhere. While this has created a globally successful diaspora, it has also left gaps in critical sectors like technology, healthcare, education, and business.

We aim to reverse this trend by bridging the gap between opportunity and expertise, enabling African professionals abroad to return home with the knowledge, experience, and innovation needed to build a stronger, more self-sufficient Africa.

Our Vision

We envision a future where:
✅ Africa’s brightest minds return home to drive economic growth and social progress.
✅ Skilled professionals collaborate with local talent to create new industries and job opportunities.
✅ The continent moves towards self-reliance and global competitiveness, led by its own people.
✅ Governments, businesses, and communities work together to welcome returning talent and maximize their impact.

How We Make It Happen

  • Facilitating Professional Return – We connect diaspora professionals with opportunities in Africa.

  • Mentorship & Networking – We provide guidance, resources, and industry connections to make the transition seamless.

  • Strategic Partnerships – We collaborate with businesses, organizations, and governments to create sustainable pathways for returnees.

  • Community Engagement – We foster a supportive network that encourages long-term impact and collaboration.

Can I go travelling and sightseeing during the weekends of my volunteer program?

As an RAP volunteer, you will have your free time and weekends available to explore more of your host country. Our team will be happy to provide recommendations for tours or trips that you can take. While we believe that an RAP trip is the most authentic way to experience a country through living and working with local people, we understand that many of our volunteers wish to visit and experience sites like regular travelers too

Will I be working with other volunteers?

The number of other volunteers varies by program and time of year. Some programs may host dozens of volunteers at the same time, while on others there may only be two or three other volunteers.
